The NHS is the largest public sector employer in the UK, recent statistics from NHS Digital reveal the most common cause of absenteeism amongst the workforce is related to poor mental health, with employees most likely to mention stress, anxiety, and depression as their reason for absence.
Investing in staff health and wellbeing delivers benefits for NHS organisations, their staff, and ultimately delivers a positive impact on patients.
The NHS Health & Well-Being framework was developed by NHS Employers, NHS England and NHS Improvement with support from partners across the NHS, voluntary sector and government to promote best practice in areas such as:
Organisational enablers – the essential leadership, structural, cultural building blocks for improving staff health and wellbeing. This includes leadership and management, data and communication and healthy working environments.
Health interventions – the core health areas to focus support for staff. This has been informed by research on the leading causes of absence due to poor health from NHS organisations.
The NHS needs staff that are well and at work to deliver effective, quality care for patients. It is more important than ever that NHS workplaces become environments that encourage and enable staff to lead healthy lives and make choices that support positive wellbeing.
As a continuation of core focus areas from our NHS Long Term Plan conference, and in light of the national response and provision of support to address the NHS Health & Well-Being Framework following the Coronavirus outbreak, this webinar will enable a leading partner to present alongside NHS England, to outline the support available for healthcare workers at this critical period.
